Competition Is Underway for Metro Detroit’s Best Cheerleaders

Sound Mind Sound Body (SMSBYA) is hosting its 2nd annual Detroit City Cheer competition on Sunday, October 29. Ten of Detroit’s best cheer organizations will contend in the local qualifier to progress to regionals in November. In partnership with Belleville School District, the event will take place at Belleville High School.

The Detroit City Lions, Detroit Spartans, Detroit Titans, Eastside Raiders, Westside Cubs, Oldtown Ducks, River Rouge Panthers, Southfield Falcons, West 7 Rams, and the Westside Steelers will all leave a mark on the world. For SMSB, the mission to prepare young athletes to compete at the highest level also shortens the gap between disparities and outdated traditional cheer standards regarding local competitions.

Uncovering alternative exposures promotes limitless cheer possibilities, including learning new skills and unlocking college scholarships through the sport of cheer.

Competing groups have signed up to compete in either of the following categories: cheer, hip-hop, pom, and step. The Detroit City Cheer Competition will showcase the hard work and creativity of over 1,000 participating cheerleaders under AYC. Tickets can be purchased in advance for $15 through Eventbrite and will be available at the door for $20. Doors open at 9 a.m., and performances start at 10 a.m.
