Sound Mind Sound Body (SMSB) takes a moment to celebrate the remarkable achievements of its Talent Search students from Detroit King and Harper Woods during the Christmas Holiday. The organization has entered its third year of developing and delivering education services and support to multiple schools, including Harper Woods, Denby, King, and East English, with the help of the M.I. Department of Education.
Indeed, SMSB always takes advantage of every opportunity to acknowledge and celebrate the hard work of its students, encouraging them to aim for higher heights. Just before Christmas break, the students were recognized for their exceptional performance in the program and were treated to a delicious feast by the SMSB staff. The holiday party allowed the students to engage in meaningful conversations with their peers and the staff, creating a stronger bond of trust and support in a safe and nurturing environment. Sharing in downtime is another positive addition to SMSB’s ongoing engagement with the metro Detroit youth.
The Talent Search (T.S.) program is part of the Federal TRIO Programs, a collection of seven outreach programs that receive funding from the U.S. Department of Education (Department). The program’s primary objective is to support students from disadvantaged backgrounds who possess the potential to excel in higher education and to aid these students in progressing through the academic pipeline from middle school to postsecondary degree attainment. The program offers its participants educational, career, and financial counseling, encouraging them to graduate from high school and pursue a college education. It also motivates individuals who still need to complete their secondary or postsecondary education to return and complete their education.
