SMSBYA Recognizes Volunteer of the Month Jamye Finch Gordon

We are delighted to announce our Volunteer of the Month for October, Jamye Finch Gordon!

Jamye Finch Gordon has volunteered for the River Rouge Panthers for almost a decade. Her desire to make a difference beyond her community and commitment to helping youth in any sport has influenced the community of River Rouge. Jamye volunteers as a board member and assistant cheer director of her organization.

“Jamye has volunteered while her sons were with the program, and now they have aged out several years ago, and she is still with us. This is her first year with the cheer side of the organization, and she took the position head-on and has done a remarkable job,” shared Lakeisha Walker-Stovall, Cheer Director of the Panthers.

“She is truly a blessing to have with our organization. Thank you for dedicating countless hours and energy to the youth of the River Rouge Panthers and community.”

Jamye is volunteering for the 8th year in a row; however, her children, all boys, aged out of the program five years ago. Before this year, she helped on the football side but saw a need within the cheer program and stepped in to help.

“I just like helping the community, helping the kids and letting them know that people outside your community care about you and believe in you. Although I’m only 15 minutes away, I don’t live in the city where the Panthers are,” shared Jamye.

“I want to see the kids go through the whole program and after school and watch them in college and say those are my kids!”

Volunteers have an enormous effect on the existence of youth leagues. Their help, support, and direction help to shape character, certainty, and how young people view society.

The River Rouge Panthers will have four cheer teams traveling to Regionals in Columbus, Ohio, next weekend. The close-knit organization has been in existence since 1993.

We want to thank Jamye Finch Gordon for positively influencing the lives of River Rouge Panthers student-athletes. Her unwavering commitment to seeing kids develop beyond youth sports shows through instilling a sense of hope and care in everyone she meets.
