DETROIT, MI — Sound Mind Sound Body Foundation (SMSB), in partnership with Foot Locker and LISC, will bring together adidas, Forgotten Harvest, the Morang District Business Association, local elected officials, community leaders and Detroit families for SMSB Community Day on Monday, October 5, from 4:00–7:00 p.m. The free event will feature food, giveaways, family activities and resources while commemorating a $500,000 transformation of the SMSB Community Engagement Center.
The renovation enhances SMSB’s Detroit campus with a newly developed multipurpose parking and recreational space that can transition to support basketball, youth programming, special events and other activities. The project expands the organization’s ability to use its campus as a year-round destination for young people and families while investing in the continued revitalization of Detroit’s District 4.
Community Day will give residents an opportunity to experience the new space while enjoying an afternoon designed for the entire family. adidas, an SMSB corporate sponsor, will provide a special shoe giveaway for youth, and Forgotten Harvest will have its mobile food distribution unit on-site to serve area residents. SMSB will also distribute school supplies purchased from Walmart, with free food, basketball, recreation and additional resources available throughout the event.
