‘We Are Putting Safety Over Athletics’, SMSB Reschedules the 5th Annual High School 7v7 Showcase for July

DETROIT – Sound Mind Sound Body, the organizers of the highly anticipated 5th Annual High School 7v7 Showcase, regretfully announced the event’s cancellation due to unforeseen air quality concerns. The decision to postpone the two-day showcase featuring over 30 schools and some of the nation’s top players was determined to prioritize the well-being of attendees, coaches, staff, and spectators.

The rescheduled dates, July 12th – 13th, will give the largest group of talent with over 30 players with D-1 offers a chance to showcase their skills at Wayne State University without compromising their health.

Curtis Blackwell, coach and co-founder of Sound Mind Sound Body, had a chance to emphasize the importance of player safety with Andres Gutierrez of CBS News Detroit. “We are putting safety over athletics because, in every event that we do as an organization, Sound Mind Sound Body always aims to prioritize the health and well-being of young people.”

Curtis Blackwell, coach and co-founder of Sound Mind Sound Body shares the organization’s course of action in response to unhealthy air qualities.

In light of the current Canadian wildfires causing outbursts of smoke in Detroit and other surrounding areas, we are following the suggestions of air quality advisories in making health and safety for all involved of paramount importance to us. Compromised air quality can potentially cause harmful effects, and the decision to reschedule permits a successful showcase of healthy athletes displaying skill and competitiveness.

We thank the players and coaches who have relentlessly prepared for the event. We also thank the sponsors, media partners, and volunteers for their support and contributions throughout the planning process. We look forward to safely hosting the 5th Annual High School 7v7 Showcase at Wayne State University July 12th – July 13th.

Admission is $15 for a two-day pass and $10 for a one-day entry. Tickets for the event can be purchased through Eventbrite
