The Summer Showcase Sells Out: The Spartans vs. The Falcons

Sound Mind Sound Body Youth Association kicked off another weekend of Summer Showcase games. The Detroit Spartans and Southfield Lathrup Falcons took over the River Rouge High School field on Saturday, August 5. The Showcase unified the community and rallied sports enthusiasts to watch the performance of notable skill, competitiveness, and sportsmanship.

The primary objective of raising funds for the organizations ahead of another season was a success. The Showcase was a sold-out event with hundreds of spectators supporting both groups.

The game was thrilling, with professional athletes competing to the last second and performing with excellent skill and high energy. Three National Championships teams made a competitive showing during the Summer Showcase: the 2022 AYF National Champions, the Southfield Falcons 11u, and the 2022 AYC National Champions, the Southfield Lathrup Falcons 8u Pom and 14u Pom.

Coach Tyninecc Garrett of the Southfield Falcons 14u team shared how the event has shown the girls’ eagerness to work hard and compete. “The girls are sparked with a new sense of readiness to execute.”

Aside from competitiveness and teamwork, the collective effort to make a difference in the lives of the youth participants left all parties with a sense of pride and hopefulness.

“This year, we look forward to another successful season of ensuring mentorship and serving the youth are the top priorities across the board.”

Over 1,100 volunteers assist in preparing young athletes for the world around them. Significant events such as the Summer Showcase directly reflect not only the hard work of athletes but the determination of many volunteers, partners, and parents who intentionally impact the youth.
