Detroit Area Players Gain a Sense of Local Competition at the Youth 7v7 Showcase

Sound Mind Sound Body partnered with Country Day High School to host the Youth 7v7 Showcase on Saturday, March 25. The event was a smashing success as over 150 Detroit area players gained a sense of local competition.

The quality of football in Michigan has drastically increased, allowing powerhouse athletes to sharpen their skills among players exposed to various competitors and skill training.

“Sound Mind Sound Body provided a great experience for the youth to go against other kids. We’ve been practicing since January, and this was their first time to have some fun,” said Jim Jones, head coach of the 12u Breadwinners.

The experience to improve and become better players beyond ending the night on an athletic high note included showing good sportsmanship, “I always tell the boys, no matter who touches the ball, to root their team members on.”

Playing three games each, Max Elite, Michigan Elite, OTD Breadwinners, 475 Elite, Honcho, and CE Stars competed in the 7v7 showcase. Players flexed their skills and had a chance to play against major talent.

“I knew it would be a nice set up of teams and a nice venue. Coach Blackwell and SMSB always put on a good show for the kids and the parents to come out and get some work,” said Desmond Martin, whose son, Drake Martin, showed mental toughness and incredible arm strength early in the first game as the QB for SMSB 14u.

There’s a positive impact on athletes competing against local teams. “You form a bond. When you come out here, you will probably see many people who play together in High School.”

“When they see the other top kids from around the area, they can get tighter. Maybe even work out with them. When we go out of town, it’s good to see this type of work because there’s not a lot of other areas that will have as much talent as we do here in Michigan.”

Sound Mind Sound Body is a proven platform that ensures students matriculate to post-secondary education by successfully prioritizing and balancing a unique curriculum that combines life skills, athleticism, and academics.
