We are thrilled to announce our overall October Football Student of the Month, Kayden Buskin!
Kayden Buskin, a 3rd grader at MacArthur University Academy, has played for the Detroit City Lions since he was five. The multifaceted 8u student athlete plays multiple positions, including quarterback, defensive end, and receiver. He also plays basketball and baseball, all while maintaining good grades. His ability to lead and celebrate others, positive attitude, and academic excellence make him a remarkable example of what it means to be an outstanding student of the month.
“Kayden is very smart and focuses on and off the field,” shared Rob Russell, the Lions 8u Head Coach.
“He is a great kid and leader. His grades are great, and he also shows it on the field.”
Kayden shared that he has developed handing the ball off as quarterback throughout the season, a skill that has translated well and paid off with outside quarterback training. Kayden and his team won the 2023 AYF State Championship in the 8u division and are heading to compete in the AYF Regionals in Columbus, Ohio, November 18-19.
The brilliant young star is a fantastic athlete and shows excellent sportsmanship. Kayden regularly celebrates his teammates during their wins, an attribute his father, Devon Buskins, is exceptionally proud of.
Despite Kayden’s busy sporting schedules, he puts forth the same effort in athletics as academics. The young scholar consistently maintains excellent grades, sharing, “Math is my favorite subject because you have different ways to do math.”
Outside of looking for gaps in his schedule to spend time with his friends, Kayden intentionally finds ways to make the day brighter for his family. The ‘really great kid’ hopes to take his athletic skills professionally or use his love for building to pursue a profession in engineering.
We are so proud to have Kayden Buskin as a remarkable student-athlete of the SMSBYA. His leadership, initiative to help others and hard work are attributes we hope to share with all our youth athletes.
