SMSBYA Recognizes Cheer Student of the Month for August, Cutora ‘Coco’ Bright

We are thrilled to announce our overall Cheer Student of the Month for August, Cutora ‘Coco’ Bright!

Coco, a 5th grader at Detroit Leadership Academy, has shown extraordinary skill, dedication, sportsmanship, and leadership both on and off the field as a Westside Cubs 12U cheerleader. Her passion for cheering, commitment to school, and outstanding execution make her a brilliant illustration of what it means to be a student-athlete.

“She represents a true student-athlete – good head on her shoulders, maintains a 4.0 GPA, and is currently involved in three extracurricular activities: church program, all-star cheerleading, and little league cheer and dance. She demonstrates commitment and promotes team core values,” shared Cheer Coordinator Teresa Parham.

With the help of her grandmother, Coco has consistently maintained a 4.0 GPA, participates in her church’s choir, and cheers for Envy Elite All-Stars. Beyond her stellar resume, Coco shared the best thing about cheering for the Westside Cubs, “I love Coach Lo and all of my cheer sisters.”

Along with the joy of her teammates, Coco has always enjoyed bringing cheer to other people because of her ‘love for the Lord and making people happy.’ Known for being ‘well mannered, humble, and always willing to help,’ Coco’s name is synonymous with pointed toes, a big smile, positive team spirit, and fantastic tumbling skills.

As an outstanding student-athlete with limitless possibilities, Coco’s future plans might include her current love for math and science. Utilizing her current passion for cheer, she hopes to one day become a professional cheerleader while also possibly entering the world of entrepreneurship.

At a young age, Coco has already acknowledged some benefits of being a part of a team sport that includes travel exposure and building relationships, “I can do a lot of things that I might not be able to do outside of cheer like learning to do flips, communicate with others, and make friends.”

We are so proud to have Cutora’ Coco’ Bright as an amazing student-athlete of the SMSBYA. She embodies the qualities and spirit we aim to impart to all our young athletes.
