SMSB Alumni: Where Are They Now? Jourdan Lewis, Dallas Cowboys

Sound Mind Sound Body is a year-round program that integrates academics, life-skills development and on-field instruction for student athletes that have dreams of playing college football and gaining a college degree. And Sound Mind Sound Body has been able to help many young men live out those dreams. When watching football of any kind today, there’s a strong likelihood you will end up seeing an SMSB alum in action.

SMSB has a plethora of former participants displaying their skillsets at various levels of competition (i.e. in high school, in college at the NAIA and Division I levels plus in the NFL). So, let’s take a trip down memory lane, and highlight the career of one of those former participants: former Detroit Cass Tech and University of Michigan star Jourdan Lewis.

Height and weight: 5-foot-10, 195 pounds
High school: Detroit Cass Tech (class of 2013)
College: University of Michigan

Jourdan Lewis may be best known for one of the craziest interceptions in college football history — a one-handed interception that sealed the deal on a 14-7 Michigan victory vs. Wisconsin in 2016. However, before that, he honed his skills at several Sound Mind Sound Body camps and at the much-celebrated Cass Tech High School.

While at Cass Tech, Lewis received tutelage from then-Technicians secondary coach Jermain Crowell, now the head coach at Belleville High School, and legendary Cass Tech head man Thomas Wilcher. Lewis was a vital cog in the Technicians’ success, helping them win back-to-back state championships in 2011 and 2012.

As a four-star prospect, Lewis took his talents to Ann Arbor, Mich., starring for the Wolverines.

While with the Wolverines, he became a first-team All-Big Ten selection, a first-team All-American in both 2015 and 2016 plus the Big Ten’s Tatum-Woodson Defensive Back of the Year during his magical senior season.

As a result of being one of the top cornerbacks in college football, it was a natural transition for Lewis as he entered the NFL Draft. He was drafted in the third round of the 2017 draft by the Dallas Cowboys.

As a rookie, Lewis played a vital role in the Cowboys’ secondary, totaling 54 tackles and one interception.
