The SMSB Youth Association is in full motion after a successful meet-and-greet at They Say Restaurant in Harper Hoods on March 6th. The event was a first for the league as they take on the 2023 season with a mindset of service, diligence, and unification. Three of its organizations and six teams concluded the 2022 AYF/AYC season as National Champions. This year, the expectation of cultivating a culture of excellence through strategic planning remains intact.
Over twenty vendors and partners were present to bring familiarity to the network of SMSB, share resources, and promote a unified culture in preparation for a triumphant second year. After eating some of the best wings in Harper Hoods, an introductory period of vendors and partners helped construct an engaging question-and-answer segment. Vendors ranged from Glynn Blackwell with Fellowship of Christian Athletes, whose service focuses on the professional development of coaches, to Brianna Zakar of Quick Made, who offers apparel and award services.
Leading representatives from the Detroit Spartans, Westside Cubs, Detroit City Lions, Westside Steelers, West 7 Rams, Eastside Raiders, Detroit Titans, Southfield Falcons, Oldtown Ducks, and the River Rouge Panthers were present to exchange functional roles and socialize within an atmosphere of solidarity.
Sound Mind Sound Body Youth League has over 1,100 volunteers who spend approximately 300 hours annually giving back to Metro Detroit youth. Sound Mind Sound Body’s after-school program is a unique curriculum that ensures students matriculate to post-secondary education by successfully prioritizing and balancing life skills, athleticism, and academics.
