Alicia Richardson began volunteering for the West Side Cubs in the summer of 2017. She has since been on the front line and behind the scenes as a dedicated addition to its organization. She spends approximately 18 hours a week helping with water during practice and giving up most of her Saturday to maintain control of the front gate. Coming an hour early and staying until the very last second of game day, Alicia takes pride in being a part of providing vigilance and order to help promote a safe and comfortable environment for all children.
Providing transportation to youngsters in need on game day, opting to spend her own money to purchase food for the Cubs 12u football team, Alicia goes beyond her call of duty as a crew member. When asked about her devotion to the West Side Cub’s organization, Alicia stated, “We are like family. I got into a car accident in August, and the coaches stepped in to pick up my son for practice. They gave us dinner. They even showed up for me when I lost both of my parents.
As a single mother, I can call when I need help, and a coach will talk to my son or even show up for parent-teacher conferences.” Alicia’s love for the Cubs shows in her pursuit to serve and ability to depend on the organization to be a part of her village. “If I could carry the whole organization on my back, I would.”
Hillaurie Little, the president of the West Side Cubs, shared, “Alicia works every game by being our Cubs Greeter and controlling the front gate. She’s also assisted with working behind the scenes transporting kids to games, purchasing food & beverages for 12u, and helping clean the field whenever needed. She’s a dedicated parent helping to provide the best environment to all children. She’s loyal to the Cubs organization and very much appreciated!”
