The Fifth Annual Sound Mind Sound Body (SMSB) High School 7v7 Showcase was a smashing success, with over 32 schools in attendance over the two-day event (July 12-13).

Defending state champions, top college prospects, and powerhouse teams took the field of Wayne State University to compete against some of Michigan’s best players at every participating position.

The talented group gained a real sense of what the 2023 football season will look like as the preseason allows working through the transition of player development and welcoming new talent. With previous seniors going off to college, players are expected to step up and perform at a higher rate.
“We are teaching them leadership. That’s one of the big things I like to do. (I am) teaching them how to lead because I won’t always be here. They are going to have to take over at some point, and that’s a big thing for me,” shared Belleville’s senior Jeremiah Beasley.
Jeremiah Beasley is the No.1 LB in Michigan and committed to UMich last month. Beasley, also a part of SMSB’s Supermax 100 program, is already preparing to ensure his back-to-back state championship team is gearing up for leading on and off the field.

The 22-23 season birthed well deserving champions while also leaving other teams hungrier than ever to compete at the next level.
The River Rouge Panthers came out to “prove a point” and show what hard work and talent look like for an underrated team ready to take on the football season.

“We got a lot of hard workers on our team. We got a lot of talent,” shared four-star wide receiver, and recent MSU commit Nick Marsh. “Everybody thinks of us as the underdogs, so we gotta come out here and show them.”
The Division-3 school lost to MLK in the playoffs last year and plans to go from the underdogs to the top dogs.
The High School Showcase gave a small glimpse of the possibility for the 22-23 football season. There’s no doubt rare talent is spread throughout Michigan.
We can expect great players and teams to continue to build up much anticipation game after game this upcoming season.
