Applications for SMSB E.L.I.T.E. are Now Open

Due to COVID-19, In May 2020, the Sound Mind Sound Body (SMSB) Football Academy launched “SMSB E.L.I.T.E.,” a 10-week virtual summer learning experience for Detroit Public School Community District (DPSCD) student-athletes.  Students received 50 hours of one-on-one virtual tutoring and mentoring comprising literacy enrichment, SAT prep, athletic training, and college and career readiness skills.

In spite of the unfortunate global circumstances, the E.L.I.T.E. program proved to be a huge success. Parents, student-athletes, tutors and coaches, gave rave reviews on the student’s literacy progress, confidence, and their commitment to both on and off the field (a few success story testimonials):

Because of such success, SMSB made the E.L.I.T.E. program year-round and opened the application process with limited space available.

On Friday, August 14, the Michigan Athletic High School Association announced that the fall football season has been moved to the spring amid the coronavirus (COVID-19) pandemic.

Immediately following, SMSB received an influx of phone calls, e-mails and messages via social media regarding available programs, and student-athletes desperately wanting a safe place to train and continue to showcase their athletic abilities.

SMSB is doing everything they can in a safely manner, and in accordance to state laws and mandates to open additional slots within the E.L.I.T.E. program. The health and well-being of SMSB staff, student-athletes, and communities is number one!

This year-round program offers: athletic training, virtual and in-person tutoring, mentoring, 7v7, individual video highlights, recruiting, college visits, camps, and more. The new session begins September 6.

The deadline to sign up is August 31. Space is limited! Click here to apply.
