National Recognition and Prestigious Honors
In recognition of his extraordinary service, Curtis Blackwell II will receive the President’s Lifetime Achievement Award from Former President Joe Biden. This award, the highest distinction within the President’s Volunteer Service Award program, honors individuals who have demonstrated an enduring commitment to volunteerism and community impact. Blackwell’s leadership has not only improved student persistence and graduation rates but has also expanded college enrollment and scholarship opportunities for countless young athletes.
The official award ceremony will be held on March 21, 2025, at the Thurgood Marshall Center Trust in Washington, D.C., hosted by Dr. Thomasina Yearwood and Rawle Andrews, Esq.
Champion for Afterschool Excellence
Further cementing his legacy, Blackwell has been named a 2025 Afterschool Ambassador by the National Afterschool Alliance-a distinction awarded to only 10-12 individuals nationwide each year. This honor recognizes his innovative leadership and dedication to advancing afterschool programs that foster learning, growth, and equity for all children. Blackwell’s contributions were also celebrated at the MAC Annual Conference, where SMSB received the Afterschool Excellence Award for Community Engagement.
